Cultural Exchanges Program: In a nutshell | Ace Summer
The cultural exchanges program provides a zero-sum game result to both the holder and the provider. There is a misconception that we would like to distill in this article. After reading it, you will be able to grasp what is the true foundation of the program, and you will also be able to embrace with an open mind, wishing you had known this before.
First of all, the Dominican Republic, along with many other nations across the globe, are enlighted and pleased with the support that the United States government has given to the summer program throughout the decades. It is their objective to provide students with the opportunity to visit that country and to rightfully skyrocket your cultural literacy. By doing so, it creates a bond where the user feels she/he is part of a community where she/he can communicate in English, visit the cities of the state she/he is living in, hence making her/him a true foreign visitor.
Second of all, visitors to the United States share a common ideal: they are delighted by the unknown. Humans always want to know what is beyond their horizons, and so are our Ace Summer students. Ace International’s students are committed to bringing joy, experiences, knowledge, culture, and language, that they could easily share with their communities back to the Dominican Republic.
On the other hand, there are some misconceptions towards the difference between the VISA holder and the J1 VISA holder. In order for one to go to the states and catapult exponentially their horizons for three months, one needs to have a working VISA that is going to allow them to live, move from one place to another, and support themselves while in the U.S. Think about it, one of the prerequisites that is asked to a person who just want to visit the country for a short period of time, not the J1 VISA, is to have some income that will ensure the United States that that person is going to do sightseeing, and to contribute to the economy. It’s a win-win situation.
Therefore, there are gains and losses that are equally attained by both parties (and the gains foreshadows the losses), because the money that the person earns by working in the states is practically injected back to the states the person is living in. Which are the gains? Knowledge, culture, language, curriculum, experience, joy. That is priceless.
In conclusion, we encourage you to see the summer programs with the spirit of a person who wants to transform her/himself in a multicultural environment. The best profit you will have is the accumulation of happiness. You will only regret not having done it before.
